It's Monday, What Are You Reading? January 14, 2019

Please visit the amazing blogs: Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers who host this terrific meme each week.

Here is my reading from the past few weeks. Click on the book covers to learn more about the books.

I LOVED the character of Little Charlie.
I listened to this one on audio. So good! Grades 5+

Merci has a lot to deal with including navigating middle school and her grandfather's advancing Alzheimer's Disease. Grades 4-6.

I enjoyed this story and kids will like it as well. I wanted a bit more development and felt it moved a little too quickly. But you will want it for your classroom. Grades 4-5.

Isabella's family becomes "blended" after her parents' divorce. She feels "blended" with a white mother and black father. Draper explores both of these aspects well. It ended abruptly in my opinion, but I did enjoy it. Grades 5-8.

  1. I just almost missed your post today, so I’m glad I checked back in. I also enjoyed Blended, but that “big” surprise did seem a little abrupt very close to the end. I have Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World, Merci Suarez Changes Gears, and The Journey of Little Charlie on my #MustReadin2019 list this year. Hope you have a wonderful reading week, Gigi!

  2. So many good looking books on your list today. I just discovered that Blended is available as an audiobook from my library so I think I will listen to it. I also enjoyed Merci Suarez Changes Gears and think Meg Medina did a great job dealing with the Alzheimer issue. As an adult I realized that was going on right from the start, but wondered if students would pick up on it.
