Luz Makes a Splash. A neat graphic novel focusing on water conservation. Really liked it.
At a trip to the bookstore, I discovered Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie books. I wish these had been around when I taught younger students. They are hilarious!

What Are You Reading??
Seeing a spread of Elephant and Piggie Books here has made me smile. I did a marathon reading of these books while I was at the library a few months back. I am intrigued by Hattie Big Sky, I really hope I get to read it soon. I have a copy of Because Amelia Smiled from our libraries, waiting to be read. This week, I shall definitely read and review it. Have a great reading week ahead of you!
ReplyDeleteMo Willems is great isn't he?? Elephant and Piggie books are so fun. I think yo will enjoy Hattie Big Sky very much.
DeleteHattie Big Sky is a book I just picked up on request from the library. I cannot wait to read it! Especially with the second title out soon. A goal I have this year is to read more historical fiction.
ReplyDeleteI also just happened to pick it up at my library and I LOVED it. Really looking forward to reading the next one. AND I actually learned a lot of historical facts that I didn't know.
DeleteMy daughter and I have only read one of the Elephant books together, but she loved it. She particularly likes Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late. :) (I'm still partial to the Knuffle Bunny books.)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Dr. Biden wrote a book. I can't wait to check it out.
I know Stacey, I didn't look at the author until after I read the book. It is very well done.
DeleteI love the Elephant & Piggie books-just terrific. There are other Mo Willems too. He is a gem. I still need to read Hattie Big Sky, so guess I'd better get going. Gigi, you shared so many books-all look good, like the A Tangle of Knots. I'll look for your review.
ReplyDeleteMo Willems is a genius! I so wish he had been around when my daughter was little. Even my 4th graders love his books....that's talent!
DeleteMy family loves Elephant & Piggie. And the youngest are in junior high, so they aren't the intended audience.
ReplyDeleteI'm always interested in how conferencing is supposed to work; my sons HATE it. They hide their reading so they don't have to conference about it. I suspect that is not the intended response, though. They are both good readers so I'm not too worried, but it does make me curious about how it's planned.
One of my professional goals is to learn more about conferring with students. I do ok with basic "Tell me about your book" type questions, but struggle with how to deepen understanding through conferencing. I hope this book helps.
DeleteI really need to read the sequel to Hattie Big Sky. I liked that one, but am having trouble getting into the sequel.
ReplyDeleteI just got the sequel on Netgalley but haven't started yet. The first one was so good, and I have heard great things about the second. Maybe it is slow going at first, I hope.
DeleteI'm having fun this year with picture books, too! I don't think I'll hit 365, though.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. My goal of 300 may have been a bit ambitious.
