My 2014-2015 Literacy Event Calendar

I created this calendar because I was missing fun literacy events at school since I didn't know when they happened. I made it last year and found it to be very helpful. The calendar includes fun literacy events with with links to the event page. I created it mostly for myself, but I am sharing it here in hopes that others will find it helpful.

I hope you will visit the calendar to help you plan literacy celebration events for this school year. If there is an event you know about and you don't see it on the calendar, please leave a comment below and I will add it.

The calendar is here, but there is also a tab at the top of the blog.

Celebrations-Christmas and My Wonderful Mother-in-Law

Every week, Ruth Ayres over at Discover. Play. Build. invites people to share celebrations from their week.  Please visit and consider linking up your own celebration.

What a great vacation week it has been so far!  I hope you all have much to celebrate.

Here are my celebrations for this week in no particular order.

1. Christmas!
I love Christmas.  I think I love it even more because my kiddos are still small enough to see the wonder and magic of the holiday. I celebrated last week that my seven year old son TJ participated in decorating the tree for the first time ever.  Now I am celebrating the fact that this year he loved opening presents! Every time he opened a present he would say "Merry Christmas" in his little, sweet voice. It was so adorable. I am also celebrating that my middle school daughter still wanted dolls for Christmas.  I am so glad she is not in a rush to grow up.

2. My amazing mother-in-law!
I have to say that I have THE best mother-in-law in the entire world, hands down.  I am celebrating that she is here for the week. She plays with the kids, helps around the house, lets my husband and I go on a date and, most importantly, tells me to go back to bed when TJ rises at 5:00.  We all love having her around, she just completes the family.

3. A day with my boy!
We have been cooped up inside a lot this week due to the ice storm and several smaller snow events. Yesterday I got to take TJ to some of his favorite places, my school, the library, Burger King and the coffee shop.  It was so nice to have a slow-paced, relaxing day together.

My adorable coffee date.

What are you celebrating friends?

Celebrating the Fact that I Came to NCTE 13!!

Every week, Ruth Ayres over at Discover. Play. Build. invites people to share celebrations from the week and link up at her blog. This is my first link up.

I have no idea how I will possibly synthesize the tremendous experience of NCTE.  I plan to reflect (probably several times) in the near future.  Today I just wanted to quickly celebrate the fact that I am actually here.  Last year, green with envy,  I watched all the tweets as people shared their learning and the amazing connections they were making.  I vowed then to do whatever I needed to do to make it happen in 2013.

I am still pinching myself. The experience of meeting my online friends in "real life" has been surreal to say the very least.

One thing I was unprepared for was how emotional I would get.
I cried when we arrived.
I cried at the Donal Graves Legacy breakfast (which was AMAZING!!).
I cried when I saw Judy Blume, JUDY BLUME!!
Then I cried when Temple Grandin took the stage to start her presentation.
Most recently, I cried after Chris Lehman's closing remarks after his session on close reading.
I did not expect this aspect of NCTE at all.

I will certainly be sharing pictures, quotes, new learnings and memorable moments soon, but for now I will just celebrate the fact that...
I. Am. Here!
