Recent Reads-September 9, 2023

Hi everyone!
Here are a couple of books I have enjoyed reading lately. (Images from Goodreads). Click on the covers to learn more about each book.

When looking for books to share around Indigenous People's Day, I read these two books. I loved them both and plan to get them for my library.

Add this one to your collection of books on stereotypes and gender norms and expectations.

I read there Maine Student Book Award books recently.
I have a student who discovered skateboarding over the summer.
I can't wait to share this book with him.

Just Beautiful!
This gorgeous book is accessible to all students.

This was a really good audiobook.

Here are a few books I read last week. Click on the covers to go to the book's page on Goodreads.

Loved it! Full Review tomorrow.

Alan Katz writes silly books and poems and this series is no exception. None of the information is actually true and the events never happened. There is a very short (factual) biographical section at the end. It has fun illustrations and kids may like it, but it was not my cup of tea.

I LOVE books about lesser-known, but super-important people. German born Emmy Noether was a gifted mathematician in a time when women were barely allowed to attend college. Her research was vital and she even helped Einstein with his Theory of Relativity. Of course, men took all the credit for her work. This book would make a nice companion to science units and to examine gender stereotypes and fairness.

It was a picture book week for me this week.

I know several little girls who would LOVE this book!
In my opinion ages 3-8 would like it best.

Sweet, adorable, lovely! A book about finding friendships right in front of you. Ages 3-8 in my opinion.

The librarian at my public library recommended these
last two for me to read.

Cute! Sort of a story of not knowing you want something until it's gone. Ages 5-8

So some might think this one is in poor taste, but I found these poems about how these animals "bought the farm" to be very funny. Ages 6-10

It has been many weeks since I posted an IMWAYR post due to NCTE and the general craziness of school, home and coursework. Here are a few highlights.

This would be a good mentor test for argument. K-4.

Really enjoyed this one. Matt Davies' illustrations are unmistakable. K-3.

A thought-provoking little book.

Sweet story about 5 friends, each waiting for something wonderful.

A look at what the world looks like at night through a child's eyes. Beautiful!

My mind is still processing this creepy, yet enthralling story. Not sure it is for my 4th graders.
