It's Monday, What Are You Reading-October 13, 2014

Please visit the amazing blogs: Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers who host this terrific meme each week.

Here are my books from last week. Click on the pictures to learn more about each book.
Picture Books
Cute book for the very young. Great illustrations.

Another book for preschool-Kindergarten. Shows how children are alike all around the world.

Loved this wordless picture book.

Hilarious, simple book. K-2.

Nonfiction Picture Books
Even as a child, Ben Franklin was an inventor. Great read aloud for upper grades.

This is a favorite nonfiction picture book from this year for sure.

Still Reading
Sadly I have not read any more this week.

  1. I still need to read The Night Gardener, Gigi. Loved Flashlight and this Orq looks fun. I also have Zebra Forest, but still haven't read it-too many books to catch up with! Thanks for sharing each of these, and happy reading this week!

  2. I loved Flashlight! It's one of those books that you see more each time you go back to it. I have Orq on hold at the library, I've heard great things. The Right Word is a great book, I'm guessing that it may have a shiny sticker or two on it after this year! Hope you have a great week!

  3. Seeing ORQ reminds me there were a bunch of books I read last week that I didn't have time to include on my #IMWAYR post this week! I can't wait to read Ben Franklin's Big Splash.

  4. I am reading Night Gardener right now too. I started it a month or so ago and did like it but put it down in favor of other books. Having a hard time getting back into it but I am determined to finish. It is now overdue at the library and can't be renewed, so I do have some strong motivation for hustling through the rest of it. I'm eager to see Flashlight--I love that cover! The Right Word is one of my favorites of the year too. Can't think of a book I think is better illustrated this year.

  5. Flashlight and the Best Book . . . both recent favourites of mine. Can't wait to find and read The Right Word. And then of course, I will need to purchase it I am sure . . .

  6. A teacher showed us The Right Word the other day at a workshop. Looks like an amazing book. There are so many terrific picture book biographies being published right now. We were very intrigued by the the cover of This ORQ - Can't wait to read it.

  7. The Right Word was TOO SHORT for what I wanted! Have you nominated for Cybils? Nominations close on Wednesday, and I'd love to see more nominations. Any shout out or lists of things you'd like to see nominated that you're comfortable with would be great, too!

  10. Will be featuring "The Right Word" for our upcoming reading theme - such gorgeous art. The Night Gardener is definitely one of my favourite reads this year. Ben Franklin's Big Splash looks great too. Thanks for sharing all these lovely books. :)
