Celebrating This Week- A Birthday, Kicking the Sugar Habit and Bookish Fun!

Every week, Ruth Ayres over at Discover. Play. Build. invites people to share celebrations from their week.  Please visit and consider linking up your own celebration.

As I look back on this week, here are my celebrations.

A Birthday!
Today my sweet, sassy, amazing daughter turns 12! Watching her grow up is wonderful, but sad. She is a middle schooler now and less of a little girl.  Although there are times when she lets her guard down and holds my hand or sits in my lap. I treasure those moments as I know we are on borrowed time until she wants nothing to do with us.

Something For Me
Recently my health has been less than optimal. I have been fatigued, out of breath and more foggy-headed than usual. I decided to look at my eating habits and do a complete overhaul. I am participating in the Whole30 plan for 30 days. Today is day 6 of no sugar or grains.  This is a big deal for a carb and sugar lover.  I am so proud of myself for actually completing 5 whole days already.  I actually do feel better.  I am excited to see what this month brings.

Unfortunately, coffee is yucky without sugar :(

Book Buzz

This was a great week in my class.  Many students are getting into the Harry Potter series. They are really enjoying talking about these books together.  Two of my girls who have read Rule and Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord came up and asked me if she has written anything new.  Well, yes, as a matter of fact she has.  Guess who will be ordering some copies of Half a Chance this weekend. Then we started our HUGE Snicker of Magic lunchtime book club. We ordered a bunch of copies and waited until after our February vacation to start. We are loving it already.

What are YOU celebrating this week?

  1. Thanks for sharing your celebrations this week. My youngest is 13 so I understand your comment of "wonderful and sad"! I like how you have changed your eating habits and are finding ways to feel better - good luck with the Whole30 Plan. (Not sure I could cut out sugar myself!) The Snicker of Magic lunchtime book club sounds like it's off to an exciting start! I've heard so many great things about this book - I can't wait to read it! Have a wonderful week!
