It's Monday, What Are You Reading? January 20, 2014

Please visit the amazing blogs: Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers who host this terrific meme each week.

I have been really busy over the last two weeks and have not posted. I also have not had much time to read, but here is what I did manage to get to.  Hoping to get back on the reading wagon this week.

Picture Books
by Kathy Stinson
Illustrated by Dusan Petricic
I did not realize that this book was based on a real event when I started reading it.  This is a touching reminder to stop and listen to the beauty around us.

by Gus Gordon
Cute, cute, cute! Herman and Rosie are great friends that almost never met. Loved it!

Middle Grade
by Kirby Larson
No one does historical fiction like Kirby Larson. I LOVED this book! Can you imagine lending your dog to the armed forces?  Well Hobie Hansen does just that AND his father is also fighting in WWII. This book is accessible to middle grades, especially if they have a bit of background knowledge.

Up Next?

I am still finishing....

I am planning to start.....

What Are You Reading Friends?

  1. I totally understand about being so busy and no time to read. I've been busy with grades and report cards. I've had Duke on my to-read list for quite a while. I might have to move it up in the pile. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I'm thinking about doing Duke as my next Book Fairy title where I bring in books to my daughter's fourth grade classroom. Glad to hear you liked it! And those picture books...loved them both!

  6. Duke is in my TBR pile, and eve since I saw Kirby Larson present at NCTE I can't wait to read it! Cynthia Kadohata wrote a book about a service dog in Vietnam, Cracker, which is excellent, too.

  7. My 8 yr old is currently obsessed with Joshua Bell after we read Man with Violin. He asks to listen to the CD over and over again--and since the other CD in steady rotation around here is full of current pop music, I am more than happy to oblige! Is that a new Cynthia Lord book?? I haven't seen it yet!

  9. Some wonderful books here, Gigi! Half a Chance is on my TBR2014 list! (I loved Rules!) The Man with the Violin was on my top picture books of 2013! I LOVE it - and the story behind it. You can watch the actual event on YouTube! I've seen a few posts on Herman and Rosie - can't wait to read it! Thank you!
