It's Monday. What Are You Reading? April 1, 2013

Please visit the amazing blog: Teach Mentor Texts
who host this terrific meme each week.

I enjoyed several great books this week!

Picture Books

by Don Brown
I LOVED this book non-fiction picture book about how Henry Knox delivered 59 cannons to Boston in the winter of 1775.

by Jacqueline Woodson
I have to read this sweet, sad book to my class.
A great reminder to show kindness always.

Graphic Novels

I read these two early grade graphic novels.  They were both cute and would appeal to students in early grades.

     by Maxwell Eaton III

Luke on the Loose
by Harry Bliss

Middle Grade

by Nancy J. Cavanaugh
Review to come later.
I really enjoyed this book and think that
my fourth graders will also.
by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
I LOVED this book.  It really hit home for me as my
family hosted foster children when I was young.  I used
half a box of tissues in the last 20 pages.

Really loving it so far!

  1. I haven't read any of these. I especially look forward to the picture book, Each Kindness, and One of the Murphys. I was really excited to see that at some point I purchased The False Prince for my Kindle so maybe I'll get that read over spring break. Thanks for the recommendations!

  3. I think my computer is on the fritz...I was just in the middle of a comment when the page refreshed, so sorry if I'm repeating myself. But here goes again:
I have GOT to get a copy of Each Kindness for my classroom! One for the Murphys is wonderful, I agree. I also can testify that you will need tissues at the end! It took me so long to finish because I couldn't see the words, too many tears!

  4. Oh yes, One for the Murphys is a book that should have tissues included when you purchase it. Loved that novel. Still get emotional thinking of it. Hope you continue loving The False Prince. I am reading The Runaway King aloud to my children right now and we are loving it!

  5. Hi Gigi!

I always love checking out what you're reading. You have two of my 2012 favorites in today's post...One for the Murphys and The False Prince. Read them both as read alouds this year and my students loved them! One of the thing's I loved about Lynda Mullaly Hunt's book is that she didn't take the easy ending route.

I'm adding This Journal Belongs to Ratchet to my TBR list!

    Have a great week!

  7. Great books, Gigi. I loved One for The Murphys, hoped it would be the Newbery, actually. And Each Kindness shouldn't be missed by anyone. I don't know the book, but I remember that story about the cannons; it was in some book I've read before. How neat someone told the story! And the Journal book will go on my TBR list. Thank you!

  8. Each Kindness is beautiful, both in words and text. I just shared One for the Murphys as one of my favorite middle grade books from the past year. I both hated/loved the ending, but couldn't imagine it being as wonderful a book if she'd written it any other way.
