It is just as good as Journey. I was so excited to learn that this is a triliogy!

Such a cute book. You will be compelled to play the telephone game after reading it.

I enjoyed this book although it is mostly sad. What a horrible experience.

Hi, I loved the poetic prose in Out of the Dust. The ribbon of fire image always comes to mind when I read her name. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think Out of the Dust has been off the shelf here in years. I'll have to take a look. Paulsen always does well, though, at least most of the titles!
ReplyDeleteI just got Telephone at the library yesterday. Looking forward to reading it. Plus I adore Mac Barnett.
ReplyDeleteIt is so cute! We read it today and then we just had to play a round of telephone.
DeleteQuest is on its way to me. Can't wait! Stuck is one of my favourite Jeffers' titles. I just read this with two girls in my class on Thursday and we giggled through the entire thing!
ReplyDeleteYes, Carrie. I read it to first graders today and they were in stitches!
DeleteI sometimes assign Out of the Dust in my Adolescent Lit course. It's a book I love, and usually my college students like it too. I am almost finished with Brown Girl Dreaming too--only I don't want to finish, so I've set it aside to read other books. Trying to savor it a bit longer!
ReplyDeleteLoved Out of the Dust - and just finished Brown Girl Dreaming, which I loved just as much. YA writers are just amazingly gifted.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great picture books! I didn't know Quest/Journey would be a trilogy either! Telephone was cute. I read it with kindergarteners after talking about "listening closely". Brown Girl Dreaming is amazing, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you are reading/listening to Out of the Dust and Brown Girl Dreaming together. Did the poetry translate well to listening? Do you feel like one or the other used the poetry format better?
ReplyDeleteHi there Gigi. Out of the Dust is one of my absolute favourite novels-in-verse of all time. Extremely powerful read, and yes, you're right, immensely sad too. I just borrowed Quest from the library and will be featuring it soon. :)
