Fiction Picture Books

Warning: Do Not Open This Book!
by Adam Lehrhaupt

If you love reading There is a Monster at the End of This Book with kids, then you will love this book.

123 Versus ABC
by Mike Bolt

In this adorable book, letters and numbers try to prove that the book is really about them.

Zero the Hero
by Joan Holub

I love the concept of this book. The other numbers don't respect zero because he is worth "nothing".  He proves he is not worthless by doing his very special job.  Kids will love this book.

Nonfiction Picture Books

No Monkeys, No Chocolate
by Melissa Stewart

This scientific examination of how everything in nature is interconnected is a winner!

Noah Webster and His Words
by Jeri Chase Ferris

I really enjoyed this story of Noah Webster's quest to create a common "American" language after the Revolutionary War.

Abandoned

Jedi Academy
by Jeffrey Brown

So many kids will love this book.  However, I think I lack sufficient background knowledge (and interest) to enjoy it. It is too visually busy for me, but kids will not have a problem with the handwriting font and comic strip combination. Get it for your Star Wars fan.

  1. I have been eyeing Jedi Academy in my book fair because it has created student interest. Of course that means I will need to add it to our collection ASAP. Nice collection this week.

  2. I wonder if I will feel the same way about JEDI ACADEMY. I kind of flipped through it and also thought it looked too visually busy. Plus I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. I did, however, love DARTH VADER AND SON and VADER'S LITTLE PRINCESS so we'll see what I think of that one.

    1. Hi Beth, I really loved Vader's Little Princess, but this one is quite different. I'll be interested in what you think if you read it.

  3. I have Timmy Failure in my library - a gift from a student. So, I am looking forward to reading your review.

  4. I enjoyed Jedi Academy (but I'm a huge SW fan), but not as much as Vader's Little Princess and Darth Vader and Son. I think my students will like Jedi Academy better, though.

I adore the Monster at the End of This Book - so I'll have to track that one down!

  5. I've read two Jeffrey Brown books lately "Vader's Little Princess" and "Darth Vader and Son" for Star Wars Reads Day and enjoyed them. Noah Webster & His Words also caught my eye as well as No Monkeys No Chocolates. I have to read more nonfiction, I know. :) Thanks for sharing all these.

  6. Isn't No Monkeys No Chocolate wonderful!? It is a title I plan to read with my class soon. Good to know re Jedi Academy. I know my students will want to read this book - just bought a copy but I think I will get my son to read and summarize for me!
