What Are You Reading?
I've read the Harriet Tubman picture book - I fell in love with that gorgeously-illustrated book. So beautiful. The Dark Frigate also looks interesting. Have a great reading week!
ReplyDeleteThe jury is still out on the The Dark Frigate. It is one of the first Newbery's and not my favorite so far. Yes, Kadir Nelson is an amazing illustrator. I only recently discovered his books.
ReplyDeleteI have a confession to make: I have a total author/illustrator crush on Kadir Nelson. I heard him speak at my local indie and he is so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! I'll bet he is awesome to listen to.
DeleteAmazingly Alfie!, I'm curious about this one...
ReplyDeleteI Loved Amazingly Alphie. It's all about accepting and embracing differences.
ReplyDeleteI just love the Harriet Tubman book! Kadir Nelson is a gifted illustrator! I'm also interested in Amazing Alphie. Looks like one I'm going to have to find.
ReplyDeleteHe sure is Stacey, just amazing! Thanks so much for stopping by.
DeleteOh, you are LISTENING to Dark Frigate? I didn't hate that Newbery, but it seems like it would be an interesting audio book.
ReplyDeleteI'm not hating it (although I know many have), but I am certainly not in love with it. I actually think it is better on audio for me with its interesting choices in language. The narrator is actually pretty good.
DeleteI actually enjoyed The Dark Frigate, but I have good memories of it as a child and I also LOVED Treasure Island when I was a kid and later True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. I too find Kadir Nelson's work amazing. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteGreat books here, Gigi. I think I'll look for Amazingly Alphie and Far, Far Away looks good. I've seen Moses-can't go wrong with Kadir Nelson!
ReplyDeleteMoses looks amazing. Heading over to Goodreads right now to add it to my TBR list. Like others, I think Kadir Nelson is brilliant!
