It's Monday, What Are You Reading? March 2, 2015

Please visit the amazing blogs: Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers who host this terrific meme each week.

Here are the books I read this week. Click on the covers to learn more about them.

A story about labels and acceptance. Good for Grades K-4.

A fun, fun, FUN interactive book for the little ones.

A beautifully illustrated wordless picture book about how drawing can transport you to different worlds.

I struggle with many of the early Newbery winners. This one is not easy to listen to so far.

  1. I just got a copy of Red though Jr. Library Guild, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I also enjoyed Mix It Up too! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Oh, I really want to read this Steven Layne title! I love the way he writes and of course, I love read aloud time and think it is crucial that we are sining its praises!

  4. The early Newberys make me want to quit reading. I've tried to read Trumpeter several times and abandoned each time. One of my students assures me that if I can just get over the hump, I'll love it--but I have my doubts! I definitely need to get that Steven Layne title!

  5. I'm with you about the early Newberys. I don't know how Colby and John did it.

  7. Red is such a powerful and important book to share with both young and older students. I have heard from several people that The Trumpeter is a tough read and you have confirmed it! The Steven Layne title looks very good. Thanks for sharing!

  8. I love that I haven't read any of these picture books, although Red is on my radar, as now have more to look forward to. I haven't tried to read all the newburys, but I'm impressed that you are tackling them. These books from a different era either really work or really don't work for me. That said, I adored A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (although I don't think it won awards)
