A Brief Summary

The Penderwicks on Gardam Street is the simply thrilling tale of four sisters their father and a brand neighbor Intha with her son Ben. As they go through a journey of devastation, confusion, thievery, stage fright, confession, the bug man, blind dates, and car batteries.

Four years ago when their mother died of cancer, she left a note insisting that Mr. Penderwick marry a second wife or at least try a couple of blind dates in the “dating pool.” But his daughters Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty are very reluctant of the idea of their father dating. So they quickly invent the “save Daddy plan”. Meaning they find the meanest, dumbest, non-orchestra-loving, non-Latin-knowing woman they can find.

But meanwhile the girls have grown fond of Inthia their new neighbor and find a way to make them have a date together leading to there marriage a few months later. Unfortunately Inthia’s  old science partner Norman has some Ideas of his own involving Inthia’s research that he claims is his own.  He interrupts the date and turns the Penderwick girls into science saving heroes.

My Opinion

This is a great book and I think anyone who likes themes of teamwork and adventure with a little humor mushed in will love this book.

Here is a book trailer.
